This year, the Ladies Foxcraft (Vivien Chase) and Dynamo (Kandis Hebert) shall be taking a stab at NaNoWriMo. In previous years, The Lady Nerds have used NaNoWriMo to revise, set insane-o goals of 90,000 words, and completed several books in a series. Read onward to see what we’re cooking up this year!

Lady Vivien

Vivien Chase

Vivien Chase (aka Lady Foxcraft) will be using NaNoWriMo for rewriting her Steampunk novel, The Science of Death:

When his family falls victim to a robbery gone wrong, Seamus wakes up on an operating table with a mechanical heart in his chest, green light pulsing with every heart beat. The experimental operation saved his life—and turned him into something more than human.

Turns out biomechanics is an emerging science with hopes of bettering humankind. But progress comes with a price, and Seamus soon finds himself defending against biomechanical monsters gone mad with the tortures forced upon their bodies. Things only get worse when mysterious creatures find their way to the skirmish, with a bloodlust granted to them by another secret experiment—one that kills the subjects only to bring them back to life. And they come back changed.

Now Seamus and his new allies are fighting a battle on two fronts, and they aren’t winning.

Kandis Hebert

Kandis Hebert (aka Lady Dynamo) will be trying something a bit new this year. For many years, she’s toyed with ideas for a High Fantasy series and all the worldbuilding that goes along with that. In recent years, she’s focused more energy on RPGs such as D&D and thought her series setting might make for an interesting campaign setting. With that in mind, NaNoWriMo will be doing double duty this year as she develops and drafts her worldbuilding notes as a D&D 5e campaign setting, still keeping in mind the novels that might spring forth from this world.

She doesn’t have a name for this world yet, but she has a lot of ideas on what she’d like to include. Without giving too much away, here are some hints at what you might find in the completed guide:

  • A new Goliath sub-race
  • Three full continents to explore
  • A rich mythology to accompany the pantheon of deities
  • Non-European cultural influences to lend more diversity to the setting
