As some of you may be aware, we at TLN created “Not Another Book Club” with the intent of having a sort of virtual book club where we could read all the wonderful genre things we love without the snobbery of other book clubs we’ve experienced. You can read more about that here.
Last month we started a book and quickly discovered that none of us were able to keep up with the reading schedule due to our hectic lives. We need to rethink NABC. Who says we have to all read the same book each month? Or that we have to read it in one month? After all, this is NOT Another Book Club, right?!
So, since we’re no longer going to have monthly books that all ladies are reading at the same time, we decided we’ll just let you know what we ARE reading from time to time.
I’m very excited about the book that I’m starting now–it’s one that’s been long awaited. Prudence by Gail Carriger. If you’ve read my list of fandoms on my bio page, then you already know I’m a huge fan of the esteemed Ms. Carriger. Her books are absolutely delightful and I often fly through them in just a few days because I’m completely unable to put them down once I begin. If you’ve never read anything of hers, do yourself a favor and find a copy of Soulless, her first book.
Supernatural creatures in a Steampunk world, what could be better? Her writing is wonderfully witty. Her characters are all oh-so-lovable. And her women kick major ass. As a follow-up to her first series, she created The Finishing School series, which are YA. Even as an adult, I loved them but, even more importantly, they were books I would be excited to share with young girls as well. The books themselves are smart–enough to challenge a young reader, but not at a level that might be discouraging. Sophronia is a strong heroine that you can be proud of your daughter/niece/little sister/etc viewing as a role model.
